Hacking and Modding the Xbox
Introduction to the Xbox and Xbox 360
The Xbox is a gaming console that was made by Microsoft. It was first released
on November 15, 2001. Production of the Xbox ran until August 2005, when NVIDIA
ceased production of an Xbox chip (the chip NVIDIA stopped producing was an
integrated Northbridge/GPU chip known as the NV2A).
The Xbox 360 is the new gaming console released by Microsoft. It is the
successor to the Xbox, and was released on November 22, 2005, four years
and one week after the original Xbox was first released. The Xbox 360
is still in production (as of June 1st, 2007).
Goal of this website
The goal of this website is to compile all the information necessary to
understand how the Xbox and Xbox 360 work, and to give information on how to
modify and customize them.
Terminology
The title of this website is "Hacking and Modding the Xbox".
The term "hacking" is used to mean experimenting with both hardware and software
modifications to the Xbox and Xbox 360, in an attempt to cirumvent the Xbox and
Xbox 360 security systems. The term "modding", which is an abbreviation of
"modifying", means making hardware hardware modifications to customize the
appearance or performance of your Xbox or Xbox 360.
