Branding Patch V1.8


This is a patch that brings branding scrolls as well as a few others into the game.

How Scroll Branding Works

When a branding scroll is read on an ordinary weapon it becomes an ego weapon (this is an ordinary ego weapon just like you could buy in a store or find in the dungeon).
When a branding scroll is read on an ego weapon it becomes a (Crafted) weapon.
When a branding scroll is read on a (Crafted) weapon it becomes a (Customized) weapon.
When a branding scroll is read on a (Customized) weapon nothing happens.


Therefore a normal weapon can have three branding scrolls read on it and then future branding scrolls will have no more effect on it.
Therefore a normal ego weapon can have two branding scrolls read on it and then future branding scrolls will have no more effect on it.
Brandings are CUMULATIVE, you can cast a Scroll of Branding (*SLAY* Dragon) on a Holy Avenger weapon and it will gain the attributes of a *SLAY* Dragon weapon as well as retain the Holy Avenger attributes. Artifacts and cursed weapons are not affected by Branding scrolls. Branding scrolls are rare items (some not so rare and others very rare).

NOTE: Weapon MUST BE WIELDED to be branded.
You may need to identify or even *IDENTIFY* the weapon to see the changes made.


New Birth Options

These Extra options are selectable at birth only and are found under the "(i) EXTRA Options 1.10/Branding 1.8". To get the the "Startup Options" type "=" when creating a character.

[These options would be used to LIMIT the number of times a weapon can have branding scrolls read on it. The default is now three times for a regular weapon, but some people want it to be two times and others only one. DON'T use these options unless you want to limit the use of branding scrolls and make the game harder.]

upto_ego_branding
branding can only raise a weapon to Ego level
(one branding can be done to regular weapons)
upto_crafted_branding
branding can only raise a weapon to (Crafted) level
(one branding can be done to Ego weapons,
two brandings to to regular weapons)

NOTE: DEFAULT

(don't use the above options), is still to allow up to (Customized) level weapons:
(one branding can be done to (Crafted) weapons,
two brandings can be done to Ego weapons,
three brandings can be done to regular weapons)


Magic Changes

Magic using classes that have branding spells, will have the spells behave just like branding scrolls EXCEPT casting branding spells from a magic book does NOT change the price of an weapon (this is to prevent magic using classes from becoming overly wealthy).


License

This code is duel licensed under the GPL and Angband licenses.
It is my intent that the GPL be used, but the Angband license is OK if this allows the code to be included in a distribution.


zangband.exe (MS WINDOWS EXECUTABLE)
This executable has the EXTRA Options PATCH V1.10 as well as the Branding Patch Branding1_8 compiled into it.

To install this executable just copy it into your ZAngband directory (usually C:\ZAngband) (You MUST download the regular ZAngband 2.7.2 FIRST, see Zangband.org). Then copy k_info.txt and misc.txt to the "ZAngband\lib\edit" directory (usually C:\ZAngband\lib\edit). These files will overwrite the files that are already there.
