ABSTRACT
The internet has become one of the defining mediums for information sharing of current times.
It allows people to quickly and conveniently share ideas and information. It also allows for
the sharing of digital media and products. This ease of use has sparked a need for more
security when dealing with digital media for multiple users. The need to secure media is
important to producers of various types of digital media, music, movies, photographs,
publications and many more; however, there are numerous popular file sharing programs such
as LimeWire, BearShare, BitTorrent and many others that make it is possible for the "trusted"
users to abuse their authority and release the file to the public. One technique aimed to
protect the intellectual property of digital media is digital fingerprinting or watermarking.
Digital fingerprinting is accomplished by embedding a secret key, also called a fingerprint,
randomly within a file in such a way that the location of the key is kept secret. It is also
important that the embedding of this key does not manipulate the integrity of the file in any
noticeable way.
